There is a known connection between atrial fibrillation and stroke risk. Finding the best way to handle this connection can determine the success of care and the quality of life for patients.

While technology has improved tremendously in recent years Uma N. Srivatsa, MBBS, from UC Davis Health System said the field of electrophysiology still faces many challenges in helping to treat patients who are diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and also at risk of stroke. Srivatsa said the role of electrophysiology is to be an "invasive" treatment field which can be used as a first line option in addressing the patient's symptoms. The biggest challenge, she said, is to improve the education not only of patients diagnosed with the condition, but also physicans who are treating them.
