National Perception of Dementia on World Alzheimers Day

SEPTEMBER 21, 2019
MD Magazine
Alzheimer Disease International (ADI) released the World Alzheimer’s Report 2019: Attitudes to Dementia prior to the official Alzheimer’s Day on September 21. The report showed about 4 in 5 people in the US are concerned about developing dementia; 1 in 4 believe nothing can be done for prevention.

Another 2 in 5 believe healthcare professionals ignore patients with dementia.

These troublesome findings generated a thoughtful conversation on the current state of care and research in dementia by an HCPLive® panel. In honor of Alzheimer’s Day and as a preview to an upcoming Peer Exchange on geriatric Alzheimer disease, here is a discussion on the report’s findings, featuring Alireza Atri, MD, PhD; Marc Agronin, MD; Brad Dickerson, MD; Mary Norman, MD; and Lynn Shaughnessy, PsyD, ABPP/CN.
