Misty Humphries: Getting Help From Military Medicine and the Future of Patient Care

As more is learned from the battlefield about limb salvage and prosthetics those lessons can be applied in civilian care. This is particularly true for conditions like peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Working at the UC Davis Health System Misty Humphries, MD, MAS, RPVI said her group works closely with David Grant USAF Medical Center where they are able to pool their resources to treat vascular diseases like PAD. While treatment for the conditions have come a long way in recent years Humphries said there is considerably more work to be done in the field including better diagnosis to help patients before amputation becomes an issue.
