Much in the way GPS systems help drivers navigate the roads easier, image guided surgery can help doctors provide better care to their patients in many cases.

Kelvin Chong, MBChB, MRCS, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said that while the technology has improved in many ways having knowledge of the traditional methods can help doctors provide a more complete picture of care to their patiens. Chong, speaking at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in Chicago, said that by using technology doctors will be able to have a more accurate direction of where they are going with their work to help treat the various conditions the procedures can be used for.
