When doctors are considering medications to prescribe to patients there are several factors they need to consider, not the least of which is cost.

Gerald Smetana, MD, from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center discussed when the cost of a medication should outweight the potential benefits of the drug during the American College of Physicians Internal Medicine meeting in Boston. Smetana said it is another area where working in larger practices can benefit the doctors as they have more resources to help patients defray the costs.
