Despite a considerable gap between the number of patients who require a transplant and the number of organs available those patients fortunate enough to receive the lifesaving organs are seeing greater success from the procedure.

Working at Hackensack University Medical Center, now known as HackensackUMC, Thomas L. Salazer, MD, said his colleagues work very hard to ensure their patients get the highest quality of care during what can be a very difficul time in their lives. With dialysis serving as a "stepping stone," to transplant Salazer said it gives doctors and patients alike a common goal to work towards.
