Megan Weigel from Baptist Neurology: Using Yoga in Multiple Sclerosis Treatment
JUNE 20, 2016
At first glance, having patients with multiple sclerosis do yoga may seem unsafe and dangerous to their health. However, under the watch of a properly trained teacher and with careful monitoring, this form of exercise has proven beneficial in even some of the most severe cases.
Megan Weigel, DNP, ARNP-c, MSCN, from Baptist Neurology in Jacksonville, Florida discussed the topic during the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers annual meeting this year. Weigel, who is also the newly elected president of the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses has been involved in a growing movement to get this available to patients which has now reached several states with the potential for more on the way. Weigel noted that almost anyone with the condition can do the exercises, even in modified form, as long as they have the correct supervision and safety equipment in place.
