JUNE 20, 2016
There are rare diseases and then there are ultra rare diseases. Neuromyelitis optica falls into the latter category, but with a considerable amount of research behind it and a defined target to look at, there has been some early success in finding treatments with more work being done every day.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers Maureen A. Mealy, RN, BSN, MSCN, discussed how the research in this condition is moving forward and what that can mean for patient care. Mealy credited the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation with being one of the organizations leading the charge to help find a treatment for this rare condition.
