Cirrhosis is not a new condition in the medical community, but researchers are looking at regions where the condition may be more common and how changes in policy regarding alcohol could help prevent more cases of the condition in the future.

Monica Cruz-Lemini, MD, PhD, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico discussed the results of research done on this topic during the Internatiional Liver Congress (EASL 2016) in Barcelona, Spain. Cruz-Lemini said that while the study looked at larger geographic areas a further study showed the need to look more locally in order to find where this is a greater need to address for that particular population.
