At CROI 2017, Anthony Mills, MD, SoCal Men's Medical Group explained that the aim of the game in the 80s was to initially find out whether their patients were going to live until Christmas -- they didn't have any therapies to offer the patients; they could only offer support. Mills believed that the entire scope has changed since then, for the better.
