DECEMBER 11, 2015

Eva Szigethy, MD, PhD, University of Pittsburgh discussed at the 2015 Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (AIBD) how to continue the conversation and implement methods to treat the burgeoning concern of opioid dependence among pediatric IBD patients.

According to Szigthy, there, of course, many risk factors with children with IBD and opioid use. Childrean with parents that have substance abuse, challenges in terms of defiant behavior or already not functioning in their schools or social spheres are at higher risks for having that shortterm opioid use turn into dependence.
