Dosing Options Provide Benefits for Cholesterol Control with Praluent
NOVEMBER 14, 2016
Doctors prescribing Praluent for their patients have two dosing options to choose from. Studies on the treatment option have shown that the safety profile for both are good for patients.
For many patients, the 75mg dose is enough to lower a patient's LDL levels into the safer range of the spectrum. For those who need additional help, providers can prescribe 150mg – which has shown to reduce LDL closer to 60%. Jay Edelberg, MD, PhD, and Sheldon Koenig, from Sanofi, discussed the benefits of the two doses during the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions in New Orleans, LA.
PCSK9 inhibitors have been on the market for less than two years and, because of that, Koenig said there is more work that needs to be done to raise awareness of the benefits of the agents with the public with the help of their providers and other sources.
