Especially for children with diagnosed with type 1 diabetes their journey with the condition will last decades affecting not only themselves but those around them. This is also true for patients with type 2 diabetes and how they confront these challenges can affect their life outside of diabetes as well.

Marisa E. Hilliard, PhD, from the Baylor College of Medicine discussed this topic during the annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association in New Orleans. For those who are diagnosed with a form of diabetes as a child their can be an emotional toll on them and their parents. As they transition into adulthood financial concerns and other health worries can be left on their shoulders or on those of their spouses or loved ones making for a potentially complicated situation.
