With more treatments on the market for hepatitis C, the costs of treatment have actually gone up in recent years. However, if more patients receive the care they need those costs could eventually go down.

Jagpreet Chhatwal, PhD, from Massachusetts General Hospital, discussed recent research on the topic during the 2015 Liver Meeting in San Francisco. As part of the study, the researchers looked at the costs of treating those patients currently diagnosed with hepatitis C as well as what it would cost to make the condition a rare disease in the future.
