Patients with chronic critical illness face a litany of health issues after their treatment needing care for these conditions. While pamidronate has been used in the past a new study looked at whether the treatment affects areas like bone absorption and overall mortality and ventilator liberation.

Rifka C. Schulman, MD from North Shore LIJ discussed the results of the study during the AACE's 24th Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress in Nashville. Schulman said the results showed that one eyear mortality was shown to improve with the medication and were more likely to be removed from the ventilator. They also showed better renal function whether they had normal or abnormal kidney function before treatment.
